I love the Red Dress pin because it starts conversations. Everywhere I go women stop me and ask, "Victoria, where did you get that cute little red dress?"
It gets an important conversation started. Heart disease is very different for women and a lot of people don't realize it's the #1 cause of death in women. Four hundred and 60 thousand women will die this year due to heart disease. It's easy for us to have a tendency to think it will never be us. It'll never happen to me.
But I know firsthand how suddenly everything changes. My family was personally touched by a terrible tragedy. My niece, a young woman who showed no obvious signs or symptoms, suddenly collapsed one day. Three beautiful children and a loving husband lost their most beloved woman that day.
Women are important. Just imagine how everything would fall apart without women!
Now take it one step further. Imagine the world without your wife, your mother, your sister. Makes it a little more personal, doesn't it? This is why we do what we do. And there are plenty of opportunities to join the cause through the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women.
Go Red For Women's biggest event of the year is the May 13 luncheon at the Cox Convention Center. There are no individual tickets. Only corporate tables. I am planning this event, and I guarantee our guests will walk away informed and inspired. I am bringing in the top executives from all across the state - business, politics, military. You can't put a price on that.
If you would like to give to this cause that is so close to my heart or have a business and want to reserve a table for the luncheon in May, e-mail Jennifer Seal or call her at (405) 948-2147.
