OKLAHOMA CITY -- New guidelines will be announced Wednesday morning about how tornado sirens are used during severe weather season in the metro.
The guidelines will be used by all communities in the Oklahoma City metro area, including El Reno and Shawnee. There are 182 storm sirens just in Oklahoma City alone.
The decision to develop a set of uniform rules came after tornado sirens were sounded last year in Edmond to warn boaters at Lake Arcadia about lightning. Many argued the warning system should only be used to warn people of tornadoes.
The Central Oklahoma Emergency Management Association will announce the new guidelines at 11 a.m.
