OKLAOMA CITY -- A suspect was killed after he led authorities on a chase that ended when he slammed into a tree near S.W. 33rd and Walker Avenue.
Police said Joseph Belton showed up at his girlfriend's home in Moore Sunday morning and told her she had five seconds to bring out clothing he had bought her or he was going to "shoot up the house." The girlfriend then called police reporting she heard Belton fire a shot.
Belton took off before police arrived, and they were unable to find any bullet holes at the scene.
Later Sunday, a Cleveland County Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull Belton over for running a stop sign. Belton did not pull over and sped off. Cleveland County authorities said the chase ended when Belton blew out a tire, hit a curb and slammed into a tree near S.W. 33rd and Walker Avenue in Oklahoma County.
The chase reached speed of 60 mph on city streets.
Belton was transported to the hospital where he died.
Police say they're not sure why the father of a two-year-old son tried running from them.
