OKLAHOMA CITY -- Alzheimer's is a cruel disease that inflicts thousands of Oklahoman and the rate of those diagnosed each year grows.
Surveys show that close to 15 million Americans are caregivers and that number is growing. And for those who have to care for their loved ones with Alzheimer's, the toll both emotional and physical can be hard to bare.
"People caring for people with Alzheimer's Disease report a very high level of stress and actually over a third of them report living with depression," said Dr. Maria Carrillo with Alzheimer's Association.
In Oklahoma alone over 200,000 people are caregivers and over 74,000 Oklahomans have been diagnosed with the disease.
