Oklahoma Airman Serving In Afghanistan
I don't like to complain about working. It's what puts beer on the table (it's a song), but we're all so tired. For some of the team that I work with, this is day 21 of a 12 hours or more shift. Somehow, we still make it to the gym because it's the only release we have. It's getting tough. I'm really surprised no one has gotten hurt or really sick yet. Every day, we move weapons and ammunition cans to and from the truck I ride in. It's not really a short walk either. We're just tired, that's all.
On a much brighter note, we've heard that our replacements will be here soon, so that's fun! It's the light that will keep us going.
This week, other than the long hours, really has been a good one. The weather is freaking amazing! Never thought I would use freaking amazing to describe this country, but even after shift, I can't help but want to go for a run just to soak up the sun. It happened overnight too. One day we were wearing jackets and gloves, and the next we're in tee shirts joking and smoking.
With the great weather, the locals are out more, which means more face time with them. I don't care where you're at, seeing a child play with a puppy is priceless! We really aren't all that different. Also on that, they love volleyball and they are stinking good at it!
I'm really enjoying life here right now. Things are looking up. Every day that goes by just means I'm that much closer to my home.
Again, I want to thank everyone for all the support. My friends and family are amazing! I don't have the words to express how they have kept me going.
I also want to wish my sister a Happy Birthday Friday.
