OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma County prosecutors have filed a first-degree murder charge against a 55-year-old man accused of killing his elderly mother.
On March 26, someone called Oklahoma City police to the 1500 block of N.E. 34th Street to report an elderly woman had been assaulted. When officers arrived, they found 87-year-old Connie Frederick had been brutally beaten.
Witnesses say the victim's son, Darrell Wayne Frederick, had become angry with his mother and another relative. Police say Frederick tried to assault the relative, but she ran away and he couldn't catch her.
Police say that's when Frederick went back into the house and began beating his mother. She was severely injured and emergency crews rushed her to a nearby hospital.
Officers arrested Darrell Frederick the next day. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on several charges, including assault and battery with means likely to cause death.
On April 30, Connie Frederick died as a result of the injuries she received during the beating. Prosecutors then added the charge of murder in the first degree to other charges against Darrell Frederick.
