Train Strikes, Kills Norman Pedestrian

Police and railroad officials are investigating a fatality accident involving a pedestrian and a train that happened shortly before noon Saturday.

NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Police and railroad officials are investigating a fatality accident involving a pedestrian and a train that happened shortly before noon Saturday.

Officers from the Norman Police Department and the University of Oklahoma Police Department were called to the Brooks Street train crossing about 11:30 a.m.  They found one pedestrian who had apparently been struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.  The man was dead at the scene.

The man's identity has not yet been determined.  The police will not release further information until the victim's identity has been established and next of kin have been notified.

The Norman Police Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team, as well as investigators from BNSF are trying to determine exactly what happened.

Boyd Street, Brooks Street, and Lindsey Street were blocked for several hours Saturday afternoon.
