CHICKASHA, Oklahoma – A 24-year-old woman trying to seek shelter from a tornado in Chickasha was killed when a mobile home fell on top of her.
Laron Short was talking with her father on Facebook Tuesday night when she asked him if the storm was getting near her. He said yes and told her to seek shelter.
That's the last time he spoke with his daughter.
Laron, her mother Tammy Short, and her mother's partner decided to head to a nearby shed for shelter. Tammy says her daughter opened the door of their trailer and just a few seconds later the mobile home crushed her.
"She took that first step out and… it just happened so fast," Tammy said. "She stepped out and the whole trailer just fell on top of her."
Tammy and her partner were right behind Laron but they were not seriously hurt.
Investigators say it appears the trailer was not tied down properly.
