Expect record-setting spin as Tiger comes out of hiding

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t expect Elin Woods to be at Tiger’s side at his “press conference” tomorrow. Unless their sex clinic folks tell them it is critical to their alleged attempt at reconciliation, if I were her I’d be as far from the fanfare as possible.

Her standing alongside would just add to the controlled posturing his handlers are seeking. The first thing America will be looking for is whether the two of them will be wearing wedding rings.

Is this how far this thing has sunk? Bloggers will rush to be the first to “break” the story that he or she or they did or he or she or they didn’t have on wedding rings. Sad state of affairs—pun intended.

Being a Tiger nut, all this is hard to swallow. But I’ve got to admit, I disagree with not only his decisions to betray his wife but his consistent history of being a control freak.

Why have six members of the press attend if they aren’t going to answer questions? Talk about political spin. Tiger’s willingness to allow all his front men to spin, spin, spin ranks with the 24/7 spinnage of Washington DC.

Don’t know if golf nuts—or as we like to be labeled, “purists”—feel like me, but I surprisingly am getting Tiger fever. Not for his swagger or anything not related to his game itself. What I am yearning for is seeing him hit shots only one man on the planet can hit.

I guess we can look for Tiger setting his first record of 2010. In this controversy-starved world of ours, there will be a record number of TV viewers. A record number of TV viewers, I must add, to tune in to see a state-controlled and contrived “press conference” where dummies would be just as effective in the audience as the “reporters.”
