I would caution everyone to wait for all the facts to unfold in the Justin Blackmon DUI arrest. In fact, that would be a good rule of thumb for any story involving a collegiate athlete. At the very least it is sad that a kid who has by all accounts been a nearly impecable student-athlete and example for what you want every football player to act like off the field has slipped up in such a public and humiliating way.

We recently did a "Faith and Football" feature on Blackmons leadership in FCA. Hopefully we learn in the coming days that this isnt as bad as it appears to be on the surface. If true, putting the lives of those in that car and others on the road in danger is hard to reconcile with the way weve seen this young man live the rest of his life.

Ive got little sympathy for someone who uses such reckless judgement as to drink and drive. Thats why Im hoping that some new information is coming.

As for football, its a devastating blow for the Cowboys if Blackmon misses any time. Hes having a Heisman candidate worthy season. Hes a gameplan changer for defenses. Its the equivalent of losing Dez Bryant a year ago. Other than losing Weeden, its the biggest loss Mike Gundy could suffer.
