OKLAHOMA CITY – The only problem with an epic pitchers' duel is that one little mistake can mean the game.
Fans couldn't have asked for a more tense game on Monday as a walk-off home run from Baylor gave them a 1-0 victory over the Cowgirls in eight innings.
Both starting pitchers went the distance and put on extremely impressive performances in the game.
Kat Espinosa picked up the loss for OSU, throwing 7.1 innings and giving up just four hits and the lone run of the game.
Baylor's Whitney Canion pitched eight innings and gave up just three hits with 10 strikeouts.
Both teams had trouble getting any runners on base, much less into scoring position.
But in the bottom of the eighth inning, Baylor catcher Kelsi Kettler took matters into her own hands with a walk-off solo homer down the left-field line.
Tamara Brown, Alysia Hamilton and Ari Morrison picked up the only hits for the Cowgirls in the contest.
Baylor will move on to face No. 2 Alabama, which also won 1-0 in the first round.
Oklahoma State will take on No. 7 California on Saturday at 11 a.m.
