Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel says he and his deputies hoped to collect $3,000 for Major Waldenville's medical care. Instead, they raised more than $12,000. Sheriff Whetsel says it could not have been done without the generosity of employees of the sheriff's office, and of citizens.
Major Waldenville is still in the hospital. According to Sheriff Whetsel, Major Waldenville is making a lot of progress. He no longer relies on a ventilator to breathe, and had successful surgery for his eyes.
