OKLAHOMA CITY -- It seems a bit precise to have been an accident, doesn't it?
If you were watching the U.S. Open yesterday on NBC, you saw the Peacock network go to ridiculous lengths to try to tie the golf tournament to our nation's history, just because it was in the D.C. area.
All networks are susceptible to such hokum, but NBC angered a lot of people with its flowery "open" edited with shots and audio of school kids reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Only they left out one small part, both times they played it.
The "Under God" part of the Pledge of Allegiance was edited out.
Twice it aired that way, and a couple of hours later NBC issued a weak on-air apology saying, "We're sorry if you were offended."
I would think everyone would be offended. You chopped up the Pledge to make it the way you wanted it, not the way we've been saying it for the last 50 years.
I think what most of us would like from NBC is an explanation as to why someone edited "Under God" out, but I won't be holding my breath.
I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
