NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Bavinger house has a storied past. But its present--not to mention its future--is much in doubt.
According to several sources, Bob Bavinger, the son of the original owner, has made several threats to destroy the house.
On Wednesday, Sky News 9 HD flew over the house and took video of its current condition. The video was shown to University of Oklahoma Professor of Architecture Nick Harm.
"Well, it looks to me like the cables have come loose and have caused the tower, the spire itself, to come over," Harm said.
Bob Bavinger claimed the house had sustained storm damage. Harm said he doubts it.
"When I look at the trees around it, they don't seem like they're damaged that much," he said.
Last Tuesday two Tulsa men with an interest in the Bavinger House drove to Norman to see if the house had been damaged. They say they were confronted by Bavinger's nephew.
"It was basically threats to call the police and have them come and remove us from the area even though we were actually on the public street," said Shane Hood.
Calls to the listed number for the Bavinger House were not answered.
