OKLAHOMA CITY -- The grandparents of a 5-year-old girl who police say was killed by her father are now speaking out about the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Chuck and Annette Deal say they don't know why the agency recommended Serenity be taken from them and turned over to her father, Sean Brooks.

Serenity died from head injuries less than a month after she began living with Brooks.

He pleaded not guilty to first degree murder.

Four DHS workers have been suspended with pay during an internal investigation to determine if they followed policy.

Reports show Serenity was put back with her father even after being treated for bruised bones and blackened eyes.
