OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City intentionally makes some green lights on city streets harder to see. They say it makes the streets safer.
In certain areas where there are multiple lights, the city adds a device which makes the green light only visible when you are almost directly underneath it. The city says in areas where there are multiple lights, drivers not paying attention will mistake the green light further away and go, when in reality the light closer to them is telling them to stop.
"I don't see any safety reason for it to be honest with you," said Pari Betts, a resident who feels the traffic lights are a hazard. "You are confused you don't know if you should go or if you should stop."
In areas where they have monitored the lights, the city admits they haven't seen a decrease in accidents but say they need more time to gauge their effectiveness.
