EDMOND, Oklahoma -- A tragic accident in eastern Oklahoma County Wednesday morning claimed the life of an Edmond dentist.
Doctor Tracey Vick was in the early stages of building a new home in rural Edmond. Police say just this morning he had rented a bulldozer so he could begin preparing the ground. Unfortunately tragedy struck when he hit a higher portion of the ground causing him to flip over the front of bulldozer. The piece of equipment then rolled over top of him.
A friend of Vick's, Dr. Richard A. Safi, said, "He was working his tail off, about as hard as he could, to try and build something, and then that happened."
Safi attended dental school with Vick and even taught Vick for a period of time.
He said Vick entered dentistry later in life and, after several years of hard work, had just opened his own practice within the past year, working for My Dentist in Edmond. He said Vick was building a new life for himself and his family.
"He had worked, you know, his whole life by trying to make ends meet and realized he wanted to go back to school to make a difference," Safi said, "do something and become a professional."
The well-respected dentist's death has hit Edmond's dental industry hard. Safi said he can't remember a man more dedicated to the profession.
"He was just a good guy, a pretty good stand-up guy," he said.
Vick is survived by his wife, five children, two brothers and two sisters.
