One Dead, Two Critically Injured In Accident Involving Pawnee Deputy

One person was killed and two were critically injured in an accident involving a Pawnee County deputy Sunday afternoon according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

TERLTON, Oklahoma -- One person was killed and two were critically injured in an accident involving a Pawnee County deputy Sunday afternoon according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Carlton L. Burgin, 58, of Choctaw, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident located four miles west and one mile south of Terlton.

Two other passengers in Burgin's car were transported by Life Flight to St. John's Hospital in Tulsa.  They were 59-year-old Dana F. Burgin of Choctaw, and 82-year-old William L. Burgin of Tulsa.  Both were listed in critical condition.

The OHP report stated that Deputy Raymond L. Leach, 24, was traveling southbound on SH 48 with lights and sirens operating when he swerved to miss another vehicle and slammed into the driver's side door of Burgin's car.

The report stated that Burgin's car was yielding for the deputy's car at the time it was struck.

The deputy was treated for a head injury and released.

The accident is still under investigation.
