OKLAHOMA CITY -- A McLoud man now faces a second-degree murder charge for allegedly providing alcohol to a teenager who later drove drunk and killed his cousin.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers arrested John Halford on Wednesday, Aug. 3. He was booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail on complaints of second-degree murder and knowingly delivering an alcoholic beverage to someone under the age of 21.
In January 2010, 18-year-old Troy Dunn crashed his Ford pickup truck near Shawnee. He was intoxicated at the time. His cousin, 17-year-old Wyatt Dunn, was killed. Four other passengers were injured.
Tory Dunn later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The investigation did not stop with Dunn's incarceration. The Pottawatomie County District Attorney's Office asked OHP to delve deeper into the case, and find out who gave the alcohol to Dunn. After a lengthy investigation, troopers identified Halford as the man who provided alcohol to Dunn.
