More Metro Cities End Mandatory Water Rationing

UNDATED – The cities of Edmond and Moore have followed Oklahoma City's lead and ended the mandatory odd/even watering rotation program.

Edmond and Moore made the announcement Thursday, a few hours after Oklahoma City. The rotation program helped the cities maintain adequate water pressure during the record-breaking heat wave.

However, both cities stressed the metro is still experiencing an extreme drought, and they encouraged residents to continue to conserve water. They offer this advice:

• Concentrate watering trees, shrubs and cool-weather grasses that will die if not watered.
• Let Bermuda grass go dormant. It will come back in the fall.
• Make sure sprinklers water the grass and not the concrete.
• Avoid watering when it's windy.
• Water in the early morning or late evening hours to prevent water lost to evaporation.
