BEAUMONT, Texas – Texas television station KFDM reports that Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins was arrested early Saturday morning in his hometown of Beaumont on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Perkins was arrested and booked into a Jefferson County jail at approximately 4 a.m. He posted bond and was released shortly afterward.
Jefferson County Jail Bookings originally said Perkins was arrested in the company of fellow NBA player Stephen Jackson. That report has since been amended, and Jackson was not arrested nor involved in the incident.
The Thunder acquired Perkins this past season in a trade with the Boston Celtics and immediately signed him to a four-year contract extension. He was added to bring strong interior defense to an Oklahoma City team that sorely needed it.
Jackson is a forward for the Milwaukee Bucks and is from the neighboring city of Port Arthur, Texas. The two were in the area for Perkins' basketball camp and celebrity game, which were canceled earlier in the week.
Perkins reportedly suffered an accident while at Jackson's home earlier in the week. Reports state that a 27-year-old male was taken from the house in an ambulance, and that he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Perkins is 27 years old, and a spokesman speaking on his behalf said Perkins was suffering from dehydration and had been told to rest.
The details of what caused Perkins' arrest currently are not known, but it is impossible for either the Thunder organization or the NBA to punish him while the league is in the midst of a lockout.
