OKLAHOMA CITY -- One in five children has the potential of going to bed hungry every night in Oklahoma, but the principal of Pierce Elementary School in southwest Oklahoma City says Food for Kids helps keep her students full and focused.
News 9 This Morning's Stan Miller spent Thursday morning at Pierce Elementary with Principal Jenny Vesper. Principal Vesper tells Stan every Friday, the Food for Kids program sends a backpack filled with kid-friendly foods home with students in need. She says students cannot concentrate on their lessons when their stomachs are rumbling, so the food is essential to helping students learn.
Stan is heading Oklahoma's Own Ride Against Childhood Hunger. It's a motorcycle ride on Sept. 17. For more information, visit our Food for Kids page.
