STILLWATER, Oklahoma – It's interesting how the aura has changed around the OSU football program since its steady rise into the top ranks over the past few years.

Several seasons ago, players would use words like "pumped up" or "excited" to describe their anticipation of the season.

But while the veteran players are always excited for football, a more common word used at Thursday's media day to describe their state of mind was "comfortable."

Despite a top 10 ranking, two Heisman candidates and plenty of the usual hype, OSU's upperclassmen seem to know what to expect these days.

Senior quarterback Brandon Weeden, who will turn 28 during the season, has seen his fair share of pressure throughout the years. He said his experience level helps him admit that he is running the offense with relative ease in the preseason.

"I'm seeing things before the snap to get us in better places if I have to," Weeden said. "Pretty much all the things I need to be doing I've got a pretty good control of."

With the NCAA's top receiver from last year lining up alongside him, his comfort level only increases.

Coach Mike Gundy said although there is once again hype surrounding the Cowboys as a potential Big 12 Champ and BCS participant, he hasn't noticed it affecting his team.

"I think there is a level of maturity here and I hope the continues on throughout the season," he said.

News 9's Charlie Hannema was in Stillwater on Thursday for OSU's first weekly press conference of the season. The Cowboys open play at home against Louisiana on Sept. 3.
