STILLWATER, Oklahoma – The Bedlam soccer series has been pretty lopsided lately, and OSU goalie AD Franch made sure it stayed like that.
The Cowgirls ran their unbeaten streak against the Sooners to nine straight on Friday night with a 1-0 victory at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Franch set the OSU career record for shutouts with the 22nd of her career.
The lone goal in the game came courtesy of the Cowgirls' Sarah Brown in the 79th minute. Kristen Kelley worked her way down the end line and delivered a pass right through the box to Brown, who sent it past OU goalie Kelsey Devonshire for the game-winning goal.
Oklahoma State had more chances to convert goals but was only able to capitalize on the one, which was enough.
OSU coach Colin Carmichael said his team wasn't playing to its full potential in the first half but finally began to create scoring opportunities in the second.
"We knew OU was a good team and they played hard and I thought we played okay in the first half, but we were just a step off, we just didn't seem to be firing," Carmichael said. "In the second half, we talked about upping the intensity, pressing them a little bit harder and also executing in the final third, and I thought we did that."
The Cowgirls improved to 3-0 on the year while the Sooners fell to 1-2.
OU coach Nicole Nelson said her expectations of her players are always for them to bounce back after a tough loss.
"(OSU) is No. 6 team in the nation and they are No. 6 in the nation for a reason," Nelson said. "They are very difficult to play against. This is a great environment, the fans were great tonight and we had some fans here tonight too."
The Sooners will host SMU at 7 p.m. on Sunday, while OSU will play at 1 p.m. on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
