OKLAHOMA CITY -- I have to admit, I was stunned today when I heard that the Gaylord family has sold not just the Oklahoman newspaper, but apparently many of their Oklahoma holdings.
You were apparently just as surprised.
Jeannne writes: "OMGoodness !!! Hard to imagine ..."
Robert from Edmond: "No way are you serious?!.. Wow!"
A lot of you were quite pleased with the news like Kathy in Newalla: "I might start reading the paper again. Hopefully we can get fair reporting now."
Bennie in Tuttle: "Awesome!!! Fair reporting for all.."
Karen writes: "Maybe this is the end of a 'one newspaper town' with editorials on the front page telling you who to vote for!!!!!"
Tim says: "I've always agreed with most of their viewpoints, I'm sure there won't be a huge change initially."
And Marie from Edmond: "..hard to believe but maybe it will be more balanced."
There is no denying that through the years the Gaylords have wielded a lot of power in this state, and used their newspaper to influence a lot of issues and elections.
But there is also no denying their enormous generosity. There's evidence of it all across the state.
It is truly the end of an era.
