NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Help is on the way to two Oklahoma disaster relief organizations.

After storms hit the state hard this summer, the University of Oklahoma and its online commerce partner, Team FanShop, wanted to find a way to help. They decided to sell a special shirt and hat, featuring the message, "Rebuild, Restore, Re-emerge and Recover, Sooners for the Sooner State."

Now United Way of Norman will distribute the proceeds from sales of the shirt and hat to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. The organizations will split $7,550. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army were chosen to receive the donation because they work directly with disaster victims statewide.

"The university's generosity will help ensure our trained volunteers are ready to respond at a moment's notice- any time of the day or night," said Robin Outland, Executive director of the American Red Cross Heart of Oklahoma Chapter. "Because of support such as this, your Red Cross is prepared to carry out local disaster response activities, such as providing immediate shelter, food, and clothing. We could not do this without the support and help of our generous donors and our United Way partnership."

Norman's Top of the World made the hat and Box Seat Clothing Company made the shirt.
