Hollis Woman Named Oklahoma Teacher Of The Year

A 4th-grade teacher at Sallie Gillentine Elementary School in Hollis has been named the 2012 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 4th-grade teacher at Sallie Gillentine Elementary School in Hollis has been named the 2012 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

Kristin Shelby was announced as the Teacher of the Year by state schools Superintendent Janet Barresi during a ceremony Tuesday at the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City.

Shelby was chosen from among 12 finalists and will represent Oklahoma in the national Teacher of the Year competition in the spring of 2012. She also receives more than $50,000 in cash and prizes that include $5,000 from the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma, use of a Ford vehicle for one year and a laptop computer.

Shelby is a National Board Certified Teacher with 16 years of classroom experience and has taught 4th grade at Gillentine Elementary School for the past three years.
