MOORELAND, Oklahoma -- The Woodward County sheriff has requested the OSBI to investigate an officer-involved shooting which occurred in Mooreland at about 11 p.m. Saturday.
The request came after deputies were called to assist a Mooreland police officer who was attempting to get a man out of his house after responding to a call for medical assistance at 210 S. Elm.
Jason Hopkins, 38, was reportedly armed with several knives and refused to leave his residence.
According to the OSBI release, one of the deputies deployed his Taser against Hopkins with no effect. The officers said Hopkins then lunged at one of them and was shot by a deputy.
Hopkins was transported to a Woodward hospital then flown to an Oklahoma City hospital where he later died.
The medical examiner will perform an autopsy this week.
The OSBI will turn over the results of its investigation to the Woodward County District Attorney for a determination if the shooting was justified.
