NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The phrase In God We Trust is raising eyebrows in Norman.
The motto will be placed in the city council chambers. This action was brought up at the city council meeting Tuesday night, when council members unanimously passed the resolution to put the motto In God We Trust in council chambers.
Council members said the idea came from Cleveland County Commissioners. They recently voted to put the same words in county offices. Several citizens voiced their concerns about the decision at Tuesday nights meeting.
Council responded saying citizens have a right to disagree and the decision to put In God We Trust in council chambers was not meant to offend anyone or be religion specific.
The council also voted to add the phrase E Pluribus Unum, which means "From Many To One," in council chambers.
