Oklahoma's Own News 9 is hitting the road again on October 28. This time Road Trip Oklahoma will be making its stop in Yukon.
With 25 residents, Yukon, Oklahoma was established in 1891 and has since grown into a town of well over 20,000 people. The Yukon Mill and Grain Company, opened in 1893, was the city's largest source of industrial growth. With more than 7,000 students, Yukon's school system currently consists of seven kindergarten through 3rd grade elementary schools, two 4th and 5th grade elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school campus.
Every year, on the first Saturday in October, the Czech festival takes place in Yukon. With approximately 50,000 people in 2011, it is one of the largest free festivals in the state of Oklahoma. Chisholm Trail Park, which was built in the shape of a boot, is one of Yukon's unique locations and hosts the Freedom Fest for 4th of July.
Grady Cross, Cody Canada, Randy Ragsdale, and Jeremy Plato of the former band Cross Canadian Ragweed are natives of Yukon, along with #1 selling solo artist in US history, Garth Brooks.
