OKLAHOMA CITY – It seems people in the metro need to spend more time in bed because a new survey finds Oklahoma City residents are not getting enough sleep.

The mattress company Sleepy's analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the sleep habits of more than 350,000 adults, studying how often people said they didn't get enough sleep or rest.

Although New York is called the city that never sleeps, it seems people in the Big Apple are getting more rest than those in Oklahoma City. Our city is the third-most sleep deprived in the nation. But the Motor City is really running on empty. It ranked number one in the survey.

Here's the list of the top 10 sleep-deprived cities:

1. Detroit
2. Birmingham, Alabama
3. Oklahoma City
4. New Orleans
5. New York
6. Cincinnati, Ohio
7. Louisville, Kentucky
8. Raleigh, North Carolina
9. Columbus, Ohio
10. Boston

The Sleepy's study found that residents in many California cities get the most sleep, including San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. Dallas and Richmond, Virginia, are also well rested.

The National Sleep Foundation suggests adults need between seven to nine hours of sleep a night. The CDC said nearly 30 percent of adults report averaging less than six hours a night.
