NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The OU women's basketball team picked up two big signees on day one of the early signing period, coach Sherri Coale announced Wednesday.

Nicole Kornet of Lantana, Texas, and Maddie Manning of Ankeny, Iowa, both signed their letters of intent to play for the Sooners.

Kornet is rated as the No. 6 guard by ESPNU Hoopgurlz and the No. 19 overall player in the country. She is a 6-foot combo guard from Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas.

Coale said Kornet is a total-package type of player who will do it all for the Sooners.

"Nicole Kornet is one of the smoothest offensive players I have seen in a long, long time," Coale said. "She's one of those kids whose play looks effortless. She makes the game look easy. She's long and skilled, and she is a gifted shooter."

Maddie Manning, a 6-foot guard, is the 11th-ranked guard in ESPNU Hoopgurlz recruiting rankings and the No. 33 player overall. She averaged 16 points and 5.6 rebounds for Ankeny High School and also starred in volleyball and track.

Coale said she was impressed with Manning since the first time she saw her play.

"She has an intensity about her, a competitive instinct and drive, and a passion for the game that is special," Coale said. "She sees things on the floor that a lot of players don't see, and she has a knack for bringing what she sees to fruition."

The Sooners open play this season Sunday, Nov. 13 as they host Sacramento State.
