Oklahoma City police spotted a wet, shivering man walking down a street and determined he was a suspect in a purse snatching and pistol whipping.

Around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, a man approached a woman at a bar near S.W. 55th Street and Young and stole her purse. The woman's boyfriend chased the man and the two started fighting. The suspect pistol whipped the woman's boyfriend and ran away.

Police rushed to the scene and began searching for the suspect. They used police dogs to scour the area but did not find him, so police called off the search.

Officers stayed in the area and later saw a man walking down the street. Police say he was wet because he'd been hiding in a nearby creek. They stopped the man and determined he was the purse-snatching suspect.

"I think the weather played to our advantage," said Oklahoma City Police Capt. Ron Bacy. "The suspect was wet from being in the creek. The temperature dropping was uncomfortable and it caused him to surface while we were still in the area."

The victims positively identified the suspect. Police arrested him and booked him into the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
