Hand's Heroics Lift Sooners Over New Mexico

The junior converted on a tip-in with 18 seconds left to play to take a lead and grab the Sooners' second win.

NORMAN, Oklahoma-- Whitney Hand followed her own miss and converted on the put back with less than 20 seconds on the clock to beat New Mexico 58-56 and stay unbeaten on the season.

The Sooners scored the game's final three points of the game, erasing a 56-55 lead after Caroline Durbin hit a floater with just 1:35 left to play. Ellenberg hit the first on a pair of free throws on the Sooners' next trip down the court to set up the heroics from Hand.

Outside of the final shot, New Mexico flat outplayed Oklahoma, shooting 41 percent to Oklahoma's 32, out rebounding the Sooners 45 to 39, but the 23 turnovers bit the Lobos in the long run.

Hand was off all night for the Sooners, hitting on just two of her 16 attempts leading into the tip in, but had dished out eight assists. Ellenberg led the charge for the Sooners with 14 points and four steals, while Joanna McFarland scored eight and grabbed 13 boards.

Durbin led the charge for New Mexico, scoring 16 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists, with Jayme Jackson scoring 12 points.

Oklahoma Will be out of action for six days, before traveling to Nashville, Tenn to participate in the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Day Classic on Friday and Saturday.
