Grady County Sheriff Art Kell says George Rouse was located in Oklahoma City at a motel along I-40 and Meridian. The sheriff says U.S. Marshals, FBI, OSBI agents, and Grady County deputies helped make the arrest at the Route 66 Motel and that they tracked Rouse down by using his phone. The sheriff says he was worried Rouse might leave the state.
Kell says Rouse confessed to shooting 31-year-old Danny Ray Franklin, but claimed it was self defense. The sheriff says he doesn't believe that and says witnesses say Rouse had been "on a rampage threatening people for money."
The sheriff says witnesses say they saw Rouse with Franklin and that Rouse was on a meth binge and had been on meth for the past eight months.
Rouse is a convicted felon, and weapons were found in his hotel room at the time of the arrest including the handgun believed to be used in the shooting.
Kell says Danny Franklin suffered a bullet wound to the head. He says there are signs that Rouse was going to try to burn the body, and that gasoline had been poured on Franklin's body.
The sheriff says they believe other people may be involved, and that Rouse may be to blame for a string of other crimes.
