In a fierce battle to the buzzer the Oklahoma women's basketball team defeated the No. 10 ranked, and previously undefeated Texas Tech Red Raiders 71-68 Wednesday in Norman.
OU junior Whitney Hand poured in 24 points and freshman Sharane Campbell scored the final seven points of the game to seal the Sooner win.
Texas Tech's Jordan Barncastle launched a contested three point shot with two seconds left to tie the game, but it fell short for the Red Raiders who had won their first 14 straight games.
The game featured 21 lead changes and was back-and-forth from the start. Tech managed a small seven point lead in the first, but that would be largest margin of the whole game.
The Sooners were on top at the break leading 37-36, but Texas Tech's Christine Hyde scored the team's first 11 points after the break.
OU briefly regained the lead after Hyde went to the bench, but Chynna Brown hit a big three-pointer to start a12-3 run that put Texas Tech ahead.
The Sooners didn't make a basket for more than 10 minutes in the second half between Kaylon Williams' layup just before the 14-minute mark provided a 51-49 lead and McFarland's 3-pointer from the left side, bringing the Sooners back within 66-62.
Tech didn't score in the final 4:58 of the game and Joanna McFarland pulled down an offensive rebound that she handed off to Campbell who scored on a layup and seal the three-point win for the Sooners.
Besides Hand's 24 points for the Sooners, Aaryn Ellenberg added 10 points and four rebounds while McFarland had a near double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Hyde scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Lady Raiders who actually outshot the Sooners from the field. OU shot 34 percent to the Red Raiders 38 percent on the night.
Oklahoma is now 10-4 on the year and 2-1 in Big 12 play.
Next up for the Sooners is the first Bedlam matchup of the season at Oklahoma State at 11 a.m.
