In the two recently-released collegiate softball rankings, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and the ESPN/USA Softball top 25, the Oklahoma Sooners (No. 5 and No. 6) and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (No. 11 and No.16) have brought in top-25 rankings.

The Sooners' high ranking comes on the heels of a No. 7 finish a year ago, during which OU notched a 43-19 record and a sixth-consecutive trip to the Women's College World Series. This is Oklahoma's 11th preseason top 10 selection in the 19-year history of the NFCA poll and the seventh in the ESPN poll.

Oklahoma State continues its tradition of being ranked in preseason polls, cracking the rankings for every week since Week 4 of the 2010 season, three shy of a school-record 31-consecutive rankings between 1998 and 1999. In the 2012 season, the Cowgirls will square off against 30 teams that are currently ranked in the top 25.

Both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will begin their Spring Ball season Feb. 10, with the Sooners heading to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Sportco Kickoff Classic, while the Cowgirls will travel to Houston for the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic.
