Thunder Employee Fired Over Rap Video Talks To News 9

A former Thunder employee, fired for making a rap video, is speaking out about what happened.

By day Brent Byers, aka Lunchmeat, is an electrician. But on Thunder nights when the team was home he was a "Storm Chaser", one of the guys that entertain the crowd during time outs.

"Loved it, best job I've ever had," Byers told News 9 on Thursday.

Understandably, Lunchmeat is also a huge Thunder fan. That's why he says he and his buddy Zane made the video.

"Every funny thing I ever said about them, I just put them together," Byers explains.

But hours after the video was posted on Saturday, Byers got a call from the Thunder.

"About 9 o'clock my boss called me and told me I was suspended indefinitely for posting the video," he recalls.

Byers says Thunder management told him they didn't like the beginning of the video where Byers says he may get in trouble because he works for the team. But he says he never really thought he would get fired.

"Absolutely not. The joke wasn't toward the team. It was like alright, let's find a way to wear this mask in the video and that's the way it worked out."

Then on Monday, Lunchmeat learned he was not longer a part of the team.

"(It was) heartbreaking."

Despite everything Lunchmeat says he's still a big fan and doesn't want to bring any bad publicity to the team or its management.

"All my life I wanted a job where I could just entertain and I did it and now I don't have it anymore."

A Thunder spokesperson says they don't comment on personnel matters. Byers says he did sign an employment agreement with the team.

Late Thursday afternoon, the video was getting close to one hundred thousand hits on YouTube.
