The recent hail storms have many Oklahomans scrambling to repair their roofs and cars, but local wildlife also took a pelting from the weather and animal rehab groups are now working overtime to nurse them back to health.

Right after the storm last Tuesday, the WildCare foundation received 150 birds injured by the hail. Many of them now have splints made of ice cream sticks, swabs and paper clips. Other birds suffered head injuries.

"We lose sleep. We are on our feet a lot. But I can save that life and that's worthwhile," says WildCare Director Rondi Large.

Other birds are in need of surgically placed pins in their wings. Large says birds are fast healers.

WildCare received 300 birds just in the past week and hopes they all can eventually be released into the wild. The organization took in 4,507 animals in 2011.
