Gas prices are the highest they have ever been for a Labor Day weekend.

Nationally, gas prices are above $3.80 per gallon, nearly 20 cents more than this time last year. Six states are pushing $4.00 a gallon. California has the highest prices in the nation at $4.15

Officials expect prices to start dropping this month as the refineries come back online and the peak summer driving season winds down.

According to the average cost right now for a gallon of gas in the state of Oklahoma is $3.63. The average for the Oklahoma City metro area is just a penny higher at $3.64.
