After a big loss to No. 1 Nebraska Thursday night, the Oklahoma volleyball team rallied to win its last two matches in the Ameritas Player Invitational, defeating No. 19 Kentucky in four sets Friday night, (-20, -20, 17-25, -23), and sweeping Duquesne Saturday (-17, -23, -20).
With the wins, the Sooners improved to 8-3 this season, and finish an eight-game road trip 5-3.
Friday night against Kentucky, the Sooners won a tough defensive battle, forcing Kentucky into 38 attack errors, and holding the Wildcats to a measly .091 hit percentage.
The Sooners also had 19 team blocks to keep the Wildcat offense at bay.
Maria Fernanda had 23 digs to lead the defense, while Sallie McLaurin had 11 kills to lead the offense, as well as two solo blocks and six block assists.
Against Duquesne, the Sooners used a strong offensive performance to bolster another tough defensive performance to get a quick sweep of the Dukes.
McLaurin led the offense with 15 kills and a .519 hit percentage, while Fernanda led the defense with 24 digs.
