An Edmond man is facing severe penalties after police say they caught him not only stealing copper, but he also admitted to making a bomb.

Edmond police arrested 45-year-old Matthew Burke Sunday night. Police say Burke was trying to steal copper wire from a home under construction.

Police say they also found a text message they say Burke sent from his cellphone. The message claimed Burke set a homemade bomb underneath a man's truck at a home in Midwest City. Police there found the bomb.

Pearl McKinnon lives two doors down from the man who police say the bomb was intended for.  She says the bomb squad hauled the device away.

"We heard them say fire in the hole! Then we heard a big boom.  I mean it wasn't no firecracker.  It was pretty good size," she said.

Matthew Burke is in the Oklahoma County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
