Oklahoma City Streets Superintendent Dies Following Surgery

Streets Superintendent and longtime Oklahoma City employee Mike DeGiacomo died Sunday from kidney failure.

Streets Superintendent and longtime Oklahoma City employee Mike DeGiacomo died Sunday from kidney failure.

DeGiacomo was well-known to News 9 viewers. He was often featured during storm coverage, speaking about the conditions of city streets during blizzards, snow and ice storms.

According to a news release from the city, DeGiacomo had a major surgical procedure on September 17, and died nearly two weeks later from kidney failure. City Manager Jim Couch said DeGiacomo was a loved member of the city's family.

"The City family is saddened by Mike's passing," said Couch. "He was a well-liked, smart, innovative professional who was dedicated to improving the quality of City streets for residents in Oklahoma City."

DeGiacomo worked for Oklahoma City for 27 years. In addition to being the Streets Superintendent for the Public Works Department, he also served in the personnel and animal welfare departments.
