This weekend will mark the first time since last winter many of us may turn on our heaters. But before you turn up the thermostat, you'll want to make sure everything is in working order.
Curtis McFarland keeps busy this time of year, going house-to-house, inspecting the heating units. He's seen it all this week, the good, the bad and the downright dangerous.
McFarland says before you fire up the heater this year, check the unit. Clean out any dust and debris, check for loose or bare wires and change the filters.
And don't forget about your space heaters. McFarland says the same tips apply, check it over and keep anything that could catch on fire a good distance away.
Now while there are some things that us homeowner can do ourselves around the house, there's really nothing better than calling out the professionals to inspect the unit because they know exactly what to look for.
