Two people were hospitalized following a police chase in Altus that ended when the suspect slammed into an innocent driver.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday night, an Altus police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 200 block of E. Commerce Street near Main and Broadway; but the driver of the 1991 Chevy pickup – 40-year-old Chad Dickerson of Davidson – refused to stop.
Police say Dickerson led them on a short chase until he collided with another driver at the intersection of E. Commerce and N. Navajoe. The second vehicle was driven by Christopher Felan of Altus. Police say Dickerson's pickup slammed into the driver's side of Felan's 1998 Buick.
After the collision, Dickerson ran from the accident, but officers caught him after a short foot chase. He complained of back injuries and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Altus Fire and Rescue had to pry Felan from his car using the jaws of life. He sustained serious leg, arm, and internal injuries and was flown by MediFlight to an Oklahoma City hospital.
Police arrested Dickerson on several complaints, including driving under the influence, attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and driving with an expired driver's license.
