University of Oklahoma women's basketball sophomore forward Kaylon Williams will miss the upcoming season after rupturing her left Achilles tendon in practice this week, OU head coach Sherri Coale announced today.
Williams suffered the injury during Tuesday's practice at the Lloyd Noble Center and underwent successful surgery Thursday. Her recovery period is expected to be six months.
"We are devastated for Kay Kay because she had improved tremendously since the end of her freshman season and was going to be a significant contributor," Coale said. "If there is a silver lining, it is that this happened the second day of practice and our team will have ample time to adjust to the loss and progress before our regular season begins.
"I know Kay Kay will turn her attention to attacking her rehab and continue being an invaluable teammate."
Williams averaged 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds last year, making 16 starts in her first collegiate season. The Midwest City, Okla., native was the Big 12 freshman leader in rebounds per minutes played and blocks per minutes played in 2011-12.
