The Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County is sending out a warning for you. They say scam artists are going door to door, claiming they are raising money for the club.
The Boys and Girls Club has received a lot of phone calls about this. And they just want these scam artists caught.
It's a place kids can come to shoot some hoops or just hang out. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County offers hundreds of Oklahoma City kids a safe place to go, both after school and during school breaks.
The last thing its President wants is for people to think they use their kids to solicit cash.
Jane Sutter is also worried that somehow this scam will sully the reputation of the club.
"What I will do if they come to my door tonight is I will call 911. And I would recommend anyone do that," Sutter said.
Brent Hoig is a volunteer at the Boys and Girls club, and has helped do a lot of repairs around the club.
He says he had one of these scam artists knock on his door.
"He said he was trying to earn subscriptions or donations to work his way into culinary art school through the Boys and Girls club," Hoig said.
Hoig said he knew there was no such program. But he kept listening.
"He said, ‘yeah we are trying to get some quality reading materials for the kids,' and I knew that sounded odd as well," Hoig said.
Though the club does accept donations, and has had several sizable contributions come in from several well-known people. None were collected door to door.
We are told these scammers usually travel in a white van. So far, these door-to-door solicitors have hit neighborhoods in Edmond, The Greens neighborhood in Northwest OKC and even Tulsa.
If you have been scammed by them, call police.
