Twelve Oklahoma soccer players earned spots on the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 team on Tuesday, marking the second straight season that OU has placed 12 on the squad. The eight first-team honorees ran the Sooners' streak of placing at least five student-athletes on the first team to nine straight seasons.
Bailey Boulware, Emily Bowman, Alison Farrell, Kali Fournier, Katherine Nutman, Brianna Turang, Molly Richey and Kathryn Watson were all named to the first team while Kelsey Devonshire, Abby Hodgen, Jessica Johnson and Kelly Price garnered second team distinction.
Nutman (history) is making her third straight appearance on the first team and achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the second year in a row. Boulware (pre-nursing), Turang (multidisciplinary studies) and Watson (multidisciplinary studies) are each making their second straight appearance.
The remaining eight student-athletes made their first appearances on the academic squad.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year.
The Big 12 named 99 student-athletes to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Team, including 79 first team honorees.
