Construction crews shut down the bridge from Kilpatrick Turnpike to southbound Lake Hefner Parkway just after midnight Monday, forcing 8,500 drivers to find a new way to get around in the area.
Crews are rebuilding a pier support to the bridge so they can widen the turnpike.
The bridge is expected to be closed for about 90 days. The contractor will receive a bonus if construction is finished early.
During the closure, commuters take the Portland Avenue exit to Lake Hefner Parkway.
