Emergency crews responded to another injury crash on Interstate-44, this one just six miles west of the town of Luther, Sunday night.

It happened near mile marker 141 on the westbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike. The accident shut down the westbound lanes for the second time Sunday night as crews worked to clear the scene of the wreckage.

Oklahoma City Fire Department District Chief Kirk Wright says three vehicles were involved with at least two people injured.

Wright says the accident was caused by the delays related to another accident on I-44 westbound at mile marker 136 that caused a major traffic jam earlier Sunday night.

Troopers say a pickup truck driving westbound on I-44 didn't realize traffic had slowed in front of him when he slammed into the back of a car, which in turn crashed into the back of another car. The truck flipped over.

The driver of the truck was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A female driver that was sandwiched between the pickup and another vehicle in front of her was flown via medical helicopter to the hospital as well. Both are listed in serious condition.

A dog in one of the vehicles died in the crash.

All westbound lanes have been reopened, but troopers will remain in the area until traffic flow returns to normal.
